Dreamy Bedroom Designs

We are a home extension specialist, so home renovations are our bread and butter. You don’t necessarily have to extend your home to maximise the opportunity within it. Victorian and Edwardian architecture had very different goals to what we know and love today. They liked smaller, more intimate rooms, which had designated functions. Today, we love open space with lots of natural light. As a result, open plan living has really taken centre stage of modern architecture. At Home Tales, we frequently get involved in renovations and refurbishments elsewhere in the property. If you are undertaking an extension, it’s the perfect opportunity to add it onto the scope of works. While the builders are in, it limits disruption and is far more cost effective.

We have recently completed some beautiful bedrooms refurbishments. We couldn’t resist a blog on bedroom design to show off our lovely imagery, and also talk you through the project. This is the perfect inspiration for your own bedroom revamp project!

Bedrooms are quite different from the functional areas of your home. Open plan living works well with kitchen, dining and living, but bedrooms should be cosy, intimate and private.

Loft bedrooms

Loft conversions and extensions create bedrooms. Loft conversions some in all shapes and sizes, but generally from the typical footprint of a Victorian terrace with an existing outrigger, you can add an l-shaped dormer. This is our most popular type of loft conversion. An l-shaped outrigger can allow for two double bedrooms and a small en-suite or bathroom in some cases. If the house is on the smaller side, this can be adapted to one bedroom and a bathroom.

We completed a loft conversion in West London (Ealing) which added two bedrooms, a WC and a walk-in wardrobe to this family home. One of the spacious rooms allowed for a double bed comfortably. The other room was smaller and has made for a fantastic study or second bedroom.

In Wandsworth, SW18, we recently completed an l-shaped dormer which added two bedrooms and a bathroom. This meant this modest 3-bed property turned into a generously sized 5-bedroom family home.

Children’s bedroom

We refurbished this bedroom in Wandsworth. We removed the chimney which added 1SQM to the rooms overall size. It might not sound like much, but the biggest change came to the configuration. Chimney stacks make furniture difficult to arrange as it disrupts lines of the room. We replaced the sash window and sanded and varnished the original reclaimed wood floor. We installed some beautiful wallpaper which really draws the eye and brightens up the room.

We carried out the interior design in this room too. Nurseries should be calm and relaxed, so we chose light blue and yellow as the main colour scheme for the room. The wallpaper gives the room a ‘pop’. The wooden furniture is from Maisons Du Monde, and the chair is from Made.com. The blind has bumble bees on which continues the yellow theme through the room. The rug is also from Maisons Du Monde.

Master bedroom

We recently refurbished this master bedroom in Wandsworth. We replaced the entire bay window and additional window with accoya wooden frames. Accoya is a treated wood, which doesn’t expand when exposed to moisture. It’s very popular in the window and door industry these days. We sanded down the original floorboards and varnished them. Before we started, the room had no heating or electrics, so we installed the radiator and completed the electrics, including plugs, the central pendant light and the light switch. We installed all of the skirting, as well as the new door. We also re-plastered the entire room too.

We recently completed this 3D render for our client in East London. We are completing a loft conversion project for them, but they also wanted to refurbish their master bedroom as it hasn’t been updated in a few decades. They were struggling to visualise the colour scheme and layout of the room. 3D visuals put everything into perspective and are fabulous if you want to experiment with ideas before committing to purchases or structural work.
