House Renovations, Before & After

Everyone loves before and after photos. It’s a fantastic way to see how far your project has come. At Home Tales, we work with lots of house renovation projects in London. Each project is unique as no two houses are the same. Some of the projects we work with are old, derelict houses, which are in need of total modernisation. Others are warm, functional family homes which simply require more space.

We have pulled together some of our favourite before and after pictures from projects we have worked on over the last decade. We work on properties of all shapes and sizes all over London.

SW18 House renovation, Ground floor extension and loft conversion

For this house renovation, the entire property was in need of modernisation. We completely stripped back everything, so all of the walls were exposed, and the entire footprint of the house could be seen. We installed full electrics throughout the property, as well as plumbing. We replaced all seven windows in the property, which included a double height bay window and five sash windows.

On the ground floor, we removed the wall that separates the front room and middle room, creating one large living area. We inserted a wall to create a ground floor WC. Towards to the rear of the property, we extended into the side infill to completely open up that rear room. This houses the kitchen and dining area. The client chose Crittal style doors which we installed, as well as 3 Velux windows to sit on top of the newly extended side infill area. The floor is porcelain tile, which is made to look like wood. They have underfloor heating which is controlled via a nest thermostat.

For the loft, we added an l-shaped dormer extension. To access the loft, we needed to install a brand-new staircase. This leads up to a small landing area, which enables access to the two double bedrooms and a family bathroom. The windows in the loft are same material as the crittal style doors to the garden, which is aluminium. They have 3 Velux windows, two in one of the bedrooms and one in the bathroom. They have eaves storage which stretches the entire width of the property, giving them valuable storage space.

SW18 Bathroom renovation

In the original design, the bathroom had a wall which spilt the WC and the bathroom from one another. We removed the wall to open up the room into one larger room. This enabled us to replace the small window with a large, double window with frosted glass for privacy. The room is now large enough to comfortably fit a WC, sink and a bath. The tiles are from Fired Earth.

N8 First floor extension and house renovation

We extended the first floor of this family home in Crouch End, N8. We also refurbished the property too. The extension completely transformed the property, allowing for a spacious, open-plan kitchen, living and dining area. We removed a chimney breast to maximise the space available. Removing chimney breasts don’t add much space in terms of footprint (approx. 1 SQM), but they make the usable space much more furniture friendly. In total we added an impressive 25SQM to the property. Check out the before and after photo of this bathroom! It just shows that the changes do not have to be substantial to make a difference.

If you are thinking of extending your home, you should consider what other works you might want to consider while the extension is being carried out. If you have the builders in, it makes sense to undertake any other, smaller items that have been on your to do list. It’s more cost effective and it’s also far less disruptive to get all of the works done in one go. We frequently carry out smaller items in addition to a ground floor extension or loft conversion such as window replacements, fitting new floors, refurbing a bathroom, or even putting up wallpaper.
