Interior Design

The finished look of a room is sometimes very easy to imagine, but when it comes to putting pen to paper (or in most cases, simply finding what you want online), things can get more difficult. When undertaking house renovation or home extension work, it’s important you begin to think about the finishing touches of your room from an early stage. Ground floor extensions completely gut and restart the room from the scratch, so you will have lots of decisions to make about the finishes of the new room.

How can Home Tales help?

So how can Home Tales help? Well, if you are using our Design Package we can help with as little, or as much as you would like. We include basic furniture and outlines within our concept floorplans as standard. If you want more comprehensive advice we can help with as much as you would like, be that styles, colour schemes, floor types, kitchen suppliers, lighting, tiles, blinds (there is a long list)! Simply let us know you are interested in some assistance with the interior design and we will create a custom quote for you.

Start with your Kitchen

Most architectural firms don’t show any kitchen detail within their drawings as standard, but we do show basic outlines. While we are not kitchen designers, we have seen a lot of kitchens and we do know what works and what doesn’t. We feel it’s important to visualise the space from an early stage, as this enables an effective development of the shell design. You have unlimited design amendments so you can ask us for loads of options. Experiment with a kitchen island, a breakfast bar – or keep it simple with an l-shaped kitchen. When it comes to the kitchen design, most of our clients develop a basic idea with us and then take it to a kitchen supplier for further support and initial quotes. Lots of kitchen companies will produce 3D visuals for you free of charge and at the stage of the initial quote, so it’s well worth utilising this service. Kitchen showrooms offer a wealth of knowledge and really help to put things into perspective. For example, even something as seeing the difference between a 450mm and a 600mm cabinet can be really helpful. John Lewis, Wickes and Magnet all have fantastic showrooms and really helpful staff that can talk you through the different options.

Take it to a mood board

Mood boards are a fantastic way of gathering ideas and seeing if they work in unison. Sometimes you think green and purple will work well together but then you see them next to one another and it just doesn’t work. Pinterest and Instagram are both really helpful tools and they essentially create a moodboard for you. Gather ideas that you like over time. Give yourself time to gather this stuff – it’s more difficult to cram lots of creative ideas in in one go. If you are planning to undertake a home extension, begin to gather your thoughts and ideas straight away. You will no doubt find images at different times and it’s important to remember to grab them when you have the opportunity.

3D visualisation

3D visuals are a fantastic way to test the waters and see if your design will work well in practice. This means you can see the scheme before you order any furniture. In some cases, this can be an investment which might even save you money in the long run. You have a couple of options when it comes to 3Ds and how detailed you would like to go.

Here is a 3D floorplan visual we did for our client in South London. They simply wanted a bit of depth and detail to their floorplan so they could see things from a better perspective. We included their existing sofa design, which are all to scale so they could really understand how much space they would available in that room.

If you want to a little more detailed, we can produce a very realistic 3D render of your finished room. This really goes into the small details and shows you exactly what your room will look like when it’s finished. This 3D was done for our client in SE22. They were really struggling to visualise the design on their floorplans and they wanted to understand how the space would work if they went for their desired design.
