Internal Refurbishments: Before & After

At Home Tales, our competitive rates and excellent renovation packages make us stand out in the sea of home renovation companies in London. We work hard to maintain a high level of accessible services and bespoke designs for all our clients. Our home improvement projects range from internal refurbishments to loft conversions to side return extensions in London. Rather than extending a property, some homeowners opt to refurbish several rooms or even their entire house. This is a great option for older properties that have plenty of space but an aged interior and structure.

We often help to reconfigure and refurbish bathrooms, bedrooms, and kitchen/dining spaces, and we personally love seeing the drastic transformations our clients’ homes go through. That is why today we would like to share some of our personal favourites. Our clients were over the moon when they saw the final product, as were we!

Children bedroom refurbishment in Wandsworth

Our clients were parents who had newly purchased a property in Wandsworth. The house was tucked away in a lovely neighbourhood with large windows, a spacious garden, and tall rooms, but they found the kitchen far too small, and the rooms incredibly outdated. We designed a ground floor extension and a complete refurbishment of the entire interior of the house, which included knocking back internal walls and chimney stacks, introducing heating, and installing new windows. Similar to the other rooms in this property, this bedroom had no heating whatsoever and the sash windows were definitely due for a replacement. To create the first bedroom for our client’s little boy, we stripped back the entire room and built it back up from scratch. The window was replaced with a new like-for-like double glazed frame to prevent potential cold draughts and introduced a brand-new radiator to ensure their son’s first bedroom would be bright, cute, and cosy. We added a lick of blue paint along with a cushy reading corner to really bring the whole room together.

Nursery refurbishment

Like many traditional properties in London, this house in South West London needed a bit of modernising. Our client wanted to remove the chimney breasts throughout their entire home to create spaces with better design flexibility. Removing these can change the whole shape of a room. This was once an incredibly dated bedroom with an unused fireplace and a rotting window frame. The room was behind the master bedroom and overlooked the rear side return of the property, which meant not a lot of light was able to get in. This needed to be addressed as natural lighting is definitely needed in a nursery to help with sleep cycles and development of healthy circadian rhythms.

We ended up with an adorable nursery for their baby girl, featuring a colourful statement wall made from strips of bespoke wallpaper. Similar to the previously mentioned project, we installed new electrics and radiators as there was no form of central heating system in the entire home. We replaced the sash windows with a like-for-like double glazed accoya frame to retain the beauty of the original architecture. The new windows and bright décor an ample amount of natural lighting. The original wood floors were sanded down to restore them back to their former glory, resulting in the beautiful, reclaimed wood finish you see now. The completed nursery room is perfect for a new born, and when they grow up, the room can be transformed into a children’s bedroom, teenager’s bedroom, and then an adult guest bedroom. We love how versatile the new space is!

Bathroom Refurbishment in Wimbledon

This property in Wimbledon finally got its long-awaited refurbishment. Along with a first-floor extension, our client wanted to knock back some of the unnecessary internal walls to create better flow throughout their home. The original bathroom and the toilet room were unusable and separated by an internal wall, hence the bathroom’s cramped size. We removed the wall and stripped the whole room back to create a beautifully spacious and bright new bathroom. Planning permission was required to make alterations to the exterior of the property. We obtained permission to replace the window with new sash windows that were double the original width of the opening. This means double the amount of natural light and many more relaxing baths at home. This attractive bathroom is now a modern, useable space, that you would have never guessed was the same room.
