The Benefit of 3D Visuals For My Home Extension

A home extension will transform your property. If you are opting for a ground floor extension, you don’t need to add a lot of space to completely change the layout of your home. Even adding a small addition, such as a side return extension, will change the shape and possibilities for the room. In addition to the extended area, here at Home Tales, we often reconfigure the entire ground floor when adding a ground floor extension, to make it work as an entire floor. In a period property, a loft conversion will typically add an entire new floor to the house. These changes are substantial and are all shown on the architectural floorplans that we provide as standard within with design phase. We believe in showing lots of details in our floorplans. We show your kitchen layout, kitchen island, breakfast bar seating, dining table, sofa, boiler, utility cupboards, desks, chairs, TV, dog beds, fish bowls, plants… you name it, we can add it. We even added a peleton bike to a previous floorplan which now sits proudly in its intended spot in our SW17 project – see if you can spot it!

If you want to go one step further, you can opt for 3D visuals. These bring depth and life to your proposal, showing, essentially, a future photograph of your finished product. These can be an incredibly useful tool if you are struggling to visualise the space and to understand how the aesthetics of the room will work once the works have been completed.

These 3D visuals are a bolt-on to our standard design service and can be purchased in additional to our design phase. You decide where the shot will be ‘taken from’ and what you want it to show. We ask for as much information as you can provide. If it’s an internal shot we ask for floor material, colour, kitchen style, appliances, the time of lighting you want, right to the final fixtures and fittings and colour of light switches. Again, no detail is too small. You name it and we will show it.

We recently completed a ground floor extension and internal reconfiguration on our project on Montserrat Avenue. The homeowner really wanted to incorporate a utility area within the property but they couldn’t understand if the space would look too cramped once built. This 3D visual showed them just what they needed to know and once this was produced they could confidently confirm the design and move into the next phase of the project. The utility area sits behind the glass panelled door next to the fridge.

This is a 3D visual we completed for our client in Hackney. The council were not going to allow a full side and rear extension (otherwise known as a wraparound extension) so we proposed a side return and a rear extension, but kept the corner gap between the two extensions. We added wood panelling onto part of the extended area which goes beautifully with the brick exterior of the property. The window seat overlooks the garden and is paired with a stunning swing door which enables access to the garden. We also produced an internal shot which overlooks the new kitchen and dining area as well as an external shot.

Loft conversions can also benefit hugely from 3D visuals. The space within a loft conversion always feels somewhat abstract to homeowners as the floor is being created from scratch, so there isn’t a visible existing space you can stand in. In addition, bedrooms can quickly feel over-crowded if you don’t get the correct size of bed and furniture. We recently produced this stunning loft conversion 3D visual which has full length glazing overlooking the garden. The bespoke glazing is a popular feature on our loft projects as it gives a truly show-stopping finish to an otherwise ordinary space. The view from a loft is also generally most impressive as it’s higher up on the property.

All of the designs that we produce are entirely unique and created bespoke to each individual client. We listen to your requirements and your must-haves. We encourage you to think new ideas and how that might integrate with ideas that you want already. 3D visuals are a great way to see designs in reality before you make any commitments to the design. This can actually save you money in the long run, as it’s reduces the chances of changing your mind later down the line.

If you want to go a step further then a 3D visual, we would encourage you to come and see one of our completed projects in person. We offer house tours which enable you to come and see a completed project. Our architectural designers are there to show you around the property, and our recommended builder is on-hand to answer any build related questions. Even if the design you are seeing is not what you would necessarily chose, it’s a great opportunity to see if in person and rule it out. Learn more about our house tours here.
