Work In Progress: Ealing Extension.

We are incredibly excited to present a sneak peek into a current work in progress on this stunning detached end of terrace in West London. Situated in Ealing, we’ve worked with our clients and the local authority on a substantial home renovation that includes a ground floor extension, loft conversion and internal alterations to the first floor.

Our clients were looking to increase the size of their property and replace an outdated conservatory, with a modern spacious rear extension. The ground floor modifications needed to be accessible, with our team working hard to balance mobility requirements with maximising space. They were also keen to improve the existing loft to include sizable bedrooms and a bathroom. This would require more natural light by improving the current windows and through the addition of rooflights.

This project required us to submit two separate planning applications. The first for the demolition of the existing conservatory, proposed ground floor rear extension, first floor internal adjustments, insertion of bay windows, proposed works to the front drive, boundary treatments and all associated works. The second application granted permission for the refurbishment of the existing windows and addition of rooflights alongside alterations to the loft space.

This was particularly tricky as the property falls within the Creffield Conservation Area. This area primarily designated in 1993, is home to properties of history and heritage that limit homeowners from making certain changes that may negatively impact or detract from the character of the area. When applying for permission, we submitted heritage statements with the applications to explain how we designed while being sensitive to the design of the host property. If you’re looking to renovate your home but concerned how a conservation area may impact your plans, you can learn more from our blog ‘Extending in a Conservation Area’.

Particularly when taking on a large-scale project, it’s always beneficial to build a relationship with both your design and build team. These lovely clients came to our SW18 house tour earlier in the year where they were able to meet with our recommended builder and tour a past project. At our house tours we always encourage you to ask any questions you may have about the process and to take any pictures or measurements that could help when thinking of your own renovation.
